August may be sticky and humid and gross, but it’s good for at least one thing—ripe, juicy tomatoes. I can’t help but get my hands on all of those juicy tomatoes at the farmer’s market in the summertime. I mean, sometimes they are so good, I’ll just eat them like an apple. Tomatoes just never taste like that during the rest of the year, don’t you agree?
So this month’s meal plan features tomatoes. And all of those “grilled” sandwiches and meats that we love—even if you don’t have a grill and just use a cast-iron skillet like me. We’ve got different variations of grilled burgers, sandwiches, brats, and skewers.
These recipes are a mixture of my own as well as some recipes I’m excited to try from other bloggers this month. I hope you’re just as excited to try them as me.
Get your groceries!
My rule of thumb is to check to see what you have first. I have listed everything you need on our grocery list, so you may already have some of these items in your pantry, fridge, or freezer. So do a quick check before going grocery shopping and buying double. No food waste here!
This grocery list is for the entire month, split up by the week. So for each corresponding week here, you will find the proper grocery list on the PDF that you can download right here.
Okay, here’s what we’re making this month!
August 1 - August 7
Thick, juicy slices of tomato on toast is what August is all about—and we’re having it for lunch every day this week. Treat yourself to some fresh tomatoes at your local farmer’s market and generously season those slices on top of crunchy toast with a thick spread of ricotta cheese. Don’t forget the olive oil drizzle! The rest of the week we’re enjoying some “grilling” favorites—even if you don’t have a grill on hand. These burgers and kebabs can be made using your oven and stove, and then we’re finishing off the week with a sweet slice of strawberry cake.

Dinners: Bacon Jalapeno Smashed Chicken Burgers, Steak Kebabs
Weekend brunch: Blender Buttermilk Dutch Baby
Treat: Strawberry Sheet Cake
August 8 - August 14
I’m all about seafood and Sauvignon Blanc in the summertime, and these speedy crab cakes help to satisfy my craving. Serve these tasty cakes with a mixed green salad, tossed with your favorite vinaigrette. When the weekend rolls around, we’re going to experiment with some ham & cheese croissants. Don’t worry, the recipe calls for prepared dough—we’re still going to be super lazy with these.

Lunch: Napa Chicken Salad with Sesame Dressing
Dinners: Speedy Crab Cakes with salad, Simple Coconut Chicken Curry
Weekend brunch: Easy Ham & Cheese Croissants
August 15 - August 21
More tomatoes, but this time served in slices of Tarte Tatin for lunch. Enjoy a thick slice with a mixed green salad yet again, or any other vegetable side of your choosing. We’re also making one of my favorite go-to dinners this week—Bahn-mi brats! To be honest, I actually make these using hot dogs instead, so choose what you prefer. And it’s not summer unless you have a batch of ice cream in your freezer, right? I’m obsessed with no-churn recipes lately. Don’t like matcha? This brownie ice cream will do!

August 22 - August 28
More burgers. More grilling. More tomatoes. Do you see I generally follow the same type of food theme during the summer? Especially during those later August days when I’m trying to soak in as much of that summer loveliness as possible. This week we’re also keeping breakfast simple with a strawberry yogurt bowl, but if you want to choose a different fruit for your bowl, go for it!
